Pik Nik

One of the pioneers of Penang’s café scene, Pik Nik has all the elements of a hipster hangout. The café’s interior is a mish-mash of colour and variety: bright pillows, a mix of chairs in various shapes, and tasteful graffiti scribbled all over the walls.

This cafe houses an array of antiques and recycled furnitures, even its tables are remade from old wooden doors! Nonetheless, it is the waffles of Pik Nik that make this café tick. Signature waffles are made crispy and adorned with savory items such as bacon, scrambled eggs and smoked salmon.

China House

China House is a traditional compound of 3 heritage buildings, linked by an open air courtyard and converted into 14 spaces comprising shops, cafes, restaurant, galleries, live music and bakery. China House framed as the longest café in Penang, measuring approximately 400 feet (120 meters). Oh ya! Their Tiramisu is the bomb!

If you’re looking for a chilling afternoon cafe, Awesome canteen is surreptitiously awesome. We love the rustic charm embedded in this cafe, it’s not something that can be easily duplicated by others. Only in Awesome Canteen ; only in Penang.

The Alley

Georgetown’s best-hidden secret is probably the only place in town that sells churros and cronuts, bringing American delights into the heart of Penang. The churros are renowned for being crispy and fluffy and a choice of five dips is offered. The cronuts, drenched in either salted caramel or nutella, will certainly make you drool.

Not to be missed is The Alley’s affogato, made up of a scoop of Haagen-Daz ice cream paired with the café’s locally roasted signature coffee. Though limited in space, the café makes up for it with its quirky interior. The Alley has since expanded to Sungai Petani and Raja Uda. The two new outlets offer bagels and sushi respectively, and are definitely worth checking out as well!
